Warm Ivory Handwoven Pure Silk Kanjivaram Saree with Arakku Red Korvai Border

Warm Ivory Handwoven Pure Silk Kanjivaram Saree with Arakku Red Korvai Border

For a Durga Puja pandal — the Bengali community's grandest cultural and religious event in the USA — this refined warm-ivory handwoven pure silk Kanchipuram saree is woven in the Korvai style. Each saree involves two separate weaving processes — the Korvai construction requires body and border to be woven on separate looms before structural interlocking. 45 days on the loom overall and cannot be replicated by machine. Woven with care by our family's artisan partners in Kunnam village in Kanchipuram district. Read our story.

Handwoven to order, not mass-produced. Handwoven, start to finish. 45 days — dyeing the thread, setting up the loom, and weaving the final piece.

The warm-ivory body is handwoven in pure mulberry silk, adorned throughout with alternating Maanga paisley and Kamalam lotus buttas in gold zari.

The broad Arakku red border features an array of Arai Maadam half-temple motifs, flanked by Mayil peacocks and Thazampoo screwpine-flower forms, with fine geometric bands and burnt-orange silk accents adding depth to the gold zari work.

Styling Tip

Keep the hair and blouse traditional — a self-colour ivory blouse and a simple low bun — but allow only one major jewellery element, a substantial Arakku red and gold choker, to carry the ceremonial weight.

Blouse Piece Included: 0.8m self-colour warm-ivory piece, with complimentary tailoring through August 27 ($30 value). See our Blouse Stitching Guide.
