This Kanchipuram saree is woven in a classic Rettapet composition in pure mulberry silk, balancing a striped silk body with a wide contrast border. The vintage-inspired body carries closely spaced Vazhaipoo stripes: vivid vermilion-raspberry silk alternates with muted Manthulir green and olive-toned bands, while fine Veldhari-like silk-thread and golden lines trace a rhythmic, leaf-veined pattern. The green recalls tender new mango leaves; the red has the depth of hibiscus petals in late afternoon light. Handwoven by artisan weaver families in Kanchipuram district, Tamil Nadu, for Idam Living. A saree of this complexity represents approximately 18 or more active days on the loom, with exact weaving time varying according to the individual saree. Read our story.
Border: A broad vermilion-raspberry Rettapet-style border is framed by narrow antique-gold geometric bands, with small Rudhraksham-inspired repeating forms along the edge. Its silk-rich, relatively open central field gives the intricately striped body a calm architectural frame. Rettapet denotes the double-border arrangement.
Pallu: The pallu opens into a grand, closely woven antique-gold diamond-grid lattice over a warm copper-vermilion ground, resembling a field of tiny jewel-set tiles. Fine geometric edging and a restrained red silk frame complete the ornamental finish. Explore the Rettapet collection, or browse the wider pure silk Kanchipuram collection for more of this character.
Styling: Pair with a plain vermilion silk blouse for a tonal vintage look, or a muted Manthulir-green blouse with antique-gold piping to echo the stripes.
