Vermilion Red Handwoven Pure Silk Kanchipuram Zari Kattam Saree with Sona Rupa Buttas
Vermilion Red Handwoven Pure Silk Kanchipuram Zari Kattam Saree with Sona Rupa Buttas
Vermilion red is given extraordinary depth here through a fine zari lattice, with alternating gold and silver-toned Sona Rupa buttas interrupting the grid in measured intervals. The effect is rich without losing the disciplined geometry that gives Zari Kattam its distinctive character.
❖ Made to order, not off a shelf. This saree spent roughly 16 active days on the loom, in addition to dyeing, threading and finishing.

Woven in the Zari Kattam tradition, the body is organised through a fine zari-grid structure punctuated with alternating gold and silver-toned Sona Rupa buttas. The contrast between the precise lattice and the fuller woven motifs gives the red field both rhythm and depth. Handwoven by artisan weaver families in Kanchipuram district, Tamil Nadu, for Idam Living. A saree of this complexity represents approximately 16 or more active days on the loom, with exact weaving time varying according to the individual saree. Read our story.
Border: The border is richly worked in zari with a repeating mayil motif register, framed by narrow geometric bands that hold the elaborate weaving in a disciplined composition.
Pallu: A dense zari-grid pallu continues the geometry of the body, framed by broader woven motif registers and a luminous red ground.
Styling: Pair it with a deep red or antique-gold blouse and traditional gold jewellery for ceremonies. A low bun with jasmine keeps the styling rooted in the saree's strong South Indian character, while a simpler blouse and one statement earring can make the same silk feel quieter for cultural gatherings.
Especially suited to Navratri celebrations, Dussehra, Diwali, weddings, temple gatherings, family ceremonies and other special occasions.
