Vermilion Red Handwoven Pure Silk Kanchi Pattu Rettapet Saree with Green-Accented Gold Zari Border

Vermilion Red Handwoven Pure Silk Kanchi Pattu Rettapet Saree with Green-Accented Gold Zari Border

Vermilion red is kept beautifully clear across the body of this Kanchi Pattu, allowing the Rettapet edge to carry the ornament. Fine deep-green lines sharpen the classic-gold border, while the pallu shifts into a much denser red-and-gold geometric surface for a distinctly ceremonial finish.

❖ Made to order, not off a shelf. This saree took 43 days — dyeing, threading, and roughly 18 on the loom — to complete.

This Kanchi Pattu is woven in a classic Rettapet composition in pure mulberry silk, defined by its traditional twin-register border detailing against a vivid vermilion red body. Handwoven by artisan weaver families in Kanchipuram district, Tamil Nadu, for Idam Living. A saree of this complexity represents approximately 18 or more active days on the loom, with exact weaving time varying according to the individual saree. Read our story.

Border: The tonal red Rettapet border uses twin classic-gold zari registers with floral and leaf-style ornament, fine geometric bands and narrow deep-green accents. A small pointed gold edging defines the transition from border into the open red body.

Pallu: The tonal red pallu becomes substantially richer through a dense classic-gold zari field built from closely ordered diamond and mesh-like geometry, creating a warm metallic surface against the saturated red silk.

Styling: Pair with a deep green blouse to repeat the narrow border accents, or use antique gold for a more formal ceremonial treatment. Gold jhumkas, one compact necklace and jasmine around a low bun will suit temple programs and weddings, while a muted green potli gives the red a sharper evening contrast.

The red-and-gold palette works naturally for Navratri gatherings, Vijayadashami, Deepavali, Karthigai Deepam, weddings, receptions, temple programs, classical performances and other festive occasions, ceremonies, cultural gatherings and special occasions.

Frequently bought together

What is the Rettapet structure in this Vermilion Red Kanchi Pattu?
Rettapet refers to the traditional double-register border arrangement that frames the vermilion-red silk. The green accents and gold ornament sit within that confirmed border treatment.
What role do the green accents play against vermilion red?
The narrow green detailing cools the intense red and separates areas of classic-gold ornament, producing a sharper and more traditional red-green-gold colour balance.
Which occasions naturally suit vermilion red Kanchi silk?
Vermilion red works particularly well for weddings, temple ceremonies, Vijayadashami, Deepavali, family functions and traditional evening events.
Can this saree be pre-pleated before it is shipped?
Yes. Pre-pleating is available as an optional service. Complimentary Fall and Picot finishing is also included.
What is the safest way to care for the red silk and zari?
Dry clean only, store in soft muslin away from direct sunlight, and avoid spraying perfume directly onto the silk or gold-zari areas.
