Vermilion Red Handwoven Pure Silk Kanjivaram Saree with Zari Kattam Navy Border
Vermilion Red Handwoven Pure Silk Kanjivaram Saree with Zari Kattam Navy Border
A cousin visiting from out of town — a saree to welcome her, and this handwoven Pure Kanjivaram silk saree in a vibrant vermilion red, woven in the traditional Zari Kattam style, is exactly right. Zari Kattam: fine zari threads intersect across the silk body to form a luminous grid. Each saree takes an estimated 10 days on the loom and cannot be replicated by machine (days on loom estimated — please confirm). Handcrafted on family looms in Kunnam village in Kanchipuram district, Tamil Nadu — read our story.
The body is woven from pure mulberry silk in a vibrant vermilion red, where the intricate Zari Kattam weave forms perfectly balanced golden checks that shimmer against the silk. Alternating zari buttas are thoughtfully placed within the grid, adding rhythm to the structured geometry — a hallmark of the Zari Kattam weave.
The deep navy contrast border is richly woven with antique gold zari featuring majestic yali motifs, floral creepers, and heritage-inspired detailing — motifs long associated with strength and abundance in South Indian weaving tradition. The grand pallu continues the same elaborate craftsmanship, creating a dramatic and luxurious finish.
Perfect for weddings, festive celebrations, temple occasions, and bridal trousseaus. Pair the navy border with a self-colour vermilion red or contrasting navy silk blouse, and complete the look with antique gold temple jewellery — a statement necklace and matching jhumkas work beautifully.
