VarnaJaalam Warm Ivory Handwoven Pure Silk Kanchi Pattu Saree with Multi-Motif Zari Stripes

VarnaJaalam Warm Ivory Handwoven Pure Silk Kanchi Pattu Saree with Multi-Motif Zari Stripes

VarnaJaalam begins with a beautifully luminous Warm Ivory silk, but instead of leaving the body quiet, the weaver has turned it into a study in rhythm. Row after row of fine zari travels across the saree, with each stripe introducing a slightly different woven vocabulary. The result feels almost like a textile sampler, where geometry, ornament and fine linear detail unfold gradually across the silk.

❖ This saree took 40 days to make — the silk is dyed, threaded, and hand-woven over roughly 14 on the loom.

This is a confirmed Butta composition in pure mulberry silk, with an array of handwoven zari motif stripes rather than a single repeated pattern. A saree of this type typically represents approximately 8 to 10 active days on the loom, although individual weaving time varies. Woven for Idam Living by skilled artisan families in the Kanchipuram district of Tamil Nadu. Read our story.

Body, Border and Pallu: The beauty lies in the variation. Some bands are narrow and restrained, others carry more elaborate repeating forms, and together they create an array of handwoven motif stripes rather than one continuously repeated pattern. Gold zari moves gently against the ivory ground, allowing the workmanship to remain visible without taking away the softness and natural lustre of the silk. The border shifts the palette dramatically: rich purple introduces the transition before an expansive burnt-orange silk register takes over, framed with intricate gold zari and repeated bird-form ornament, while fine geometric bands add structure and touches of green, blue and other jewel-toned accents give VarnaJaalam its expressive, almost painterly colour story. The pallu deepens into purple and is extensively woven with gold zari, including a dense geometric field and richly ordered ornamental registers. Explore the Butta collection, or browse the wider pure silk Kanchipuram collection for more of this character.

Styling: Style it with a purple blouse for a regal continuation, or pull out one of the unexpected green or blue accents for a more contemporary contrast. Antique-gold jewellery and a softly structured low bun will keep the emphasis on the remarkable succession of handwoven motif stripes and the richly coloured border.
