Vadamalli Purple Handwoven Pure Silk Kancheepuram Zari Kattam Saree with Peacock Border

Vadamalli Purple Handwoven Pure Silk Kancheepuram Zari Kattam Saree with Peacock Border

A sweep of Vadamalli purple, like globe-amaranth flowers in the afternoon sun, makes this saree feel vivid even before the gold peacocks at the border catch the light.

❖ 16 days of loom work went into this saree, handwoven in Kanchipuram by generations of artisan weaver families using certified pure silk.

Woven in the Zari Kattam tradition, the fine grid of zari is part of the visual rhythm of the body, while petite buttas add delicate points of gold. The body glows in Vadamalli, a full magenta-purple drawn from the saturated petals of globe amaranth, set with very fine gold zari kattam checks and a scattering of small gold buttas. Handwoven by artisan weaver families in Kanchipuram district, Tamil Nadu, for Idam Living. A saree of this complexity represents approximately 16 or more active days on the loom, with exact weaving time varying according to the individual saree. Read our story.

Border: A coordinated magenta-purple border carries bold antique-gold peacocks woven among curling malar kodi vines. The dense gold motifs make the purple read deeper at the edge.

Pallu: The pallu is a field of ornate gold floral lattice over bright pink-purple silk, framed by a floral-geometric zari band and delicate, closely spaced linear zari work. Explore the Zari Kattam collection, or browse the wider pure silk Kanchipuram collection for more of this character.

Styling: Let the purple remain the focus with a plain deep-magenta blouse, gold bangles and a single string of jasmine. A softly open pallu will show the change from the fine checked body to the densely patterned gold field.

Frequently bought together

What is Zari Kattam in this saree?
Zari Kattam refers to the fine grid of gold-toned zari lines across this vadamalli purple silk body. The petite buttas sit within that delicate checked rhythm.
What makes the border of this vadamalli purple Kanchipuram distinctive?
A coordinated magenta-purple border carries bold antique-gold peacocks woven among curling malar kodi vines. The dense gold motifs make the purple read deeper at the edge. The peacock and malar kodi motifs are larger and more ornamental than the small buttas on the body.
How does the pallu differ from the body?
The body is a restrained grid with petite buttas, while the pallu becomes more densely ornamental. The pallu is a field of ornate gold floral lattice over bright pink-purple silk, framed by a floral-geometric zari band and delicate, closely spaced linear zari work.
Can I have a blouse stitched to complement these colours?
Yes. The saree includes a 0.8 m running blouse piece, and Idam Living offers custom blouse stitching. Let the purple remain the focus with a plain deep-magenta blouse, gold bangles and a single string of jasmine.
How should I care for the gold zari and silk?
Dry clean only. Store the saree folded in soft muslin, away from direct sunlight, and avoid spraying perfume directly on silk or zari.
