Turmeric Yellow Handwoven Pure Silk Kanjipuram Korvai Saree with Black Mayil Zari Border
Turmeric Yellow Handwoven Pure Silk Kanjipuram Korvai Saree with Black Mayil Zari Border
Turmeric Yellow gives this pure silk Kanjipuram saree an immediate warmth, with large circular gold zari buttas appearing at generous intervals across the open body. The colour is saturated and golden rather than orange, allowing each woven motif to catch the light clearly. Then the Korvai border changes the mood completely. Black silk, extensive gold zari and a fine deep-red edge create a powerful frame around the yellow body.
❖ Every saree is made to order. 45 days pass between dyeing the silk and the finished weave, roughly 20 of it spent on the loom.

This is a confirmed Korvai composition in pure mulberry silk, with a separately woven, structurally distinct contrast border joined to the body using the traditional interlocking Korvai technique. A saree of this type typically represents approximately 18 to 22 active days on the loom, although individual weaving time varies. Woven for Idam Living by skilled artisan families in the Kanchipuram district of Tamil Nadu. Read our story.
Body, Border and Pallu: The contrast border is central to the Korvai character of the saree. A pointed line of gold marks the transition from Turmeric Yellow into black before the border expands into richly woven zari registers. Large Mayil peacocks emerge prominently through the gold, surrounded by scrolling ornamental forms and finer geometric divisions. The black silk beneath the zari gives these motifs exceptional definition. The pallu continues the darker palette, carrying black silk beneath an extensive field of gold zari. After the comparatively open yellow body, this concentration of metallic weaving creates a deliberate progression in visual weight. The narrow deep-red finishing edge is a particularly effective detail, adding one final colour note without interrupting the yellow, black and gold composition. Explore the Korvai collection, or browse the wider pure silk Kanchipuram collection for more of this character.
Styling: For styling, let the border determine the direction. A black blouse gives the saree its strongest and most graphic treatment, while deep red draws out the fine finishing edge and makes the palette feel more ceremonial. Antique gold jewellery works naturally with the Mayil zari. Keep the hair in a clean low bun or long braid, adding jasmine for temple celebrations, weddings and traditional festive occasions.
