Turmeric Yellow Handwoven Pure Silk KanchiPattu Korvai Saree with Deep Maroon Zari Border

Turmeric Yellow Handwoven Pure Silk KanchiPattu Korvai Saree with Deep Maroon Zari Border

Turmeric Yellow gives this handwoven Pure Silk KanchiPattu Korvai saree an extraordinary warmth, somewhere between sunlit marigold and freshly ground turmeric. Petite gold zari buttas are scattered across the body with generous breathing room, allowing the saturated yellow and natural silk lustre to remain beautifully visible between each point of gold.

❖ Handwoven to order. This Korvai saree represents approximately 15–22 active days on the loom, from the first interlocking pass to the final woven border.

This is a confirmed Korvai composition in pure mulberry silk, woven with separate shuttles for the body and border whose wefts interlock at the point where the two colours meet — the defining construction technique behind every genuine Korvai. A saree of this type typically represents approximately 15 to 22 active days on the loom, although individual weaving time varies. Woven for Idam Living by skilled artisan families in the Kanchipuram district of Tamil Nadu. Read our story.

Body, Border and Pallu: The transition into deep Maroon is where the character of the Korvai becomes especially compelling. In traditional Korvai weaving, the contrasting body and border are worked with separate shuttles and interlocked during the weaving itself, creating the crisp body-to-border junction for which this Kanchipuram technique is known. It is a more involved loom process than simply continuing one colour through the width of the saree, and here that workmanship gives the yellow and maroon contrast remarkable definition. The border builds upward in an elaborate succession of handwoven zari registers. Narrow patterned lines, leaf-like details, geometric separators and broader ornamental motifs are stacked one above another, giving the border considerable visual depth without losing its structure. Deep Maroon silk forms the ground beneath the glowing gold zari, while the darker outer edge gives the entire border a beautifully finished frame. The pallu shifts fully into deep Maroon and becomes considerably more intricate, with a dense gold zari field, minute geometric patterning and richly woven ornamental registers running along its sides and end. Explore the Korvai collection, or browse the wider pure silk Kanchipuram collection for more of this character.

Styling: For a saturated counterpoint, style it with an emerald or deep bottle-green blouse and antique-gold jewellery, allowing the green to act as a deliberate third colour against the turmeric and maroon. Finish with a clean centre-parted low bun for a polished ceremonial look.
