Body, Border and Pallu: The transition into deep Maroon is where the character of the Korvai becomes especially compelling. In traditional Korvai weaving, the contrasting body and border are worked with separate shuttles and interlocked during the weaving itself, creating the crisp body-to-border junction for which this Kanchipuram technique is known. It is a more involved loom process than simply continuing one colour through the width of the saree, and here that workmanship gives the yellow and maroon contrast remarkable definition. The border builds upward in an elaborate succession of handwoven zari registers. Narrow patterned lines, leaf-like details, geometric separators and broader ornamental motifs are stacked one above another, giving the border considerable visual depth without losing its structure.
