Turmeric Yellow Oosi Vaanam Kai Korvai Kanchi Pattu Saree with Kamalam Border
Turmeric Yellow Oosi Vaanam Kai Korvai Kanchi Pattu Saree with Kamalam Border
Turmeric Yellow and Deep Black: A Field of Turmeric Beneath a Midnight Sky
A field of turmeric blooms beneath a midnight sky, where golden lotuses rise along the edge of emerald silk.
The silk body is a brilliant Turmeric Yellow, glowing between marigold, golden saffron and ripe mango tones. The contrasting Kai Korvai border and pallu are a deep near-black, charcoal-to-ink-black silk with warm undertones, enriched by warm yellow-gold zari.
A narrow dark emerald-green silk edge introduces a jewel-toned accent at the hem. Gold and green together sharpen the border's traditional character.
❖ 20 days of loom work went into this saree, handwoven in Kanchipuram by generations of artisan weaver families using certified pure silk.

A traditional Korvai weave gives this pure mulberry silk Kanchi Pattu its structure, with a Kai Korvai construction: the contrast border is woven separately and hand-interlocked with the body at the loom, a true structural join rather than a printed or stitched-on edge or a simple colour contrast. Handwoven by artisan weaver families in Kanchipuram district, Tamil Nadu, for Idam Living. A saree of this complexity represents approximately 20 or more active days on the loom, with exact weaving time varying according to the individual saree. Read our story.
The Body: Vairaoosi as Vertical Oosi Vaanam
The turmeric silk body carries extremely fine, closely repeated vertical zari-thread lines: a Vairaoosi-inspired arrangement expressed here as Oosi Vaanam, a rain of needle-fine vertical lines.
The linear structure creates an almost ribbed, shimmering surface that catches the light without visually overpowering the bright yellow silk. Small spaced gold zari buttas punctuate the body.
The Border: Kai Korvai with Kamalam, Malli Moggu and Peacock Detailing
The deep-black Kai Korvai border is filled with broad gold zari ornamental bands. Large circular Kamalam (lotus) medallions repeat along the principal band, surrounded by fine floral details. Malli Moggu (jasmine-bud) ornament forms a smaller repeating decorative sequence, and small stylised peacock-inspired detailing belongs to the traditional border vocabulary of this piece.
The border also carries fine geometric lines and a pointed bud- or temple-like zari edge. A narrow emerald-green strip creates a striking finish below the black and gold. The border is joined to the body by true Kai Korvai hand-interlocking at the loom. Explore the Korvai collection, or browse the wider pure silk Kanchipuram collection for more of this character.
The Grand Pallu
The pallu is a striking deep-black silk field arranged with long, richly woven vertical bands of gold zari. Two commanding central bands carry repeating large Kamalam medallions, each enclosed within a framed ornamental column.
Fine geometric lines, traditional floral edges and slender zari stripes flank the lotus bands on either side. The black negative space between the gold bands gives the composition unusual visual depth. A strong gold-and-green end border and turmeric tassels finish the pallu. The arrangement is simultaneously grand and architectural.
