Turmeric Yellow Handwoven Pure Silk Kanjeevaram Korvai Saree with Navy Peacock Arai Maadam Border

Turmeric Yellow Handwoven Pure Silk Kanjeevaram Korvai Saree with Navy Peacock Arai Maadam Border

As classic as a ceremonial Kanchipuram palette gets: luminous turmeric yellow set against deep navy blue. The contrast is sharpened by Korvai construction, while the border carries a procession of peacocks and Arai Maadam details that gives the saree its unmistakably old-Kanchi character.

❖ Made to order, not off a shelf. This saree spent roughly 20 active days on the loom, in addition to dyeing, threading and finishing.

In Korvai construction, the contrasting body and border are structurally interlocked, creating a deliberate separation between the radiant yellow silk and the deep navy border. Handwoven by artisan weaver families in Kanchipuram district, Tamil Nadu, for Idam Living. A saree of this complexity represents approximately 20 or more active days on the loom, with exact weaving time varying according to the individual saree. Read our story.

Border: The navy Korvai border is woven with repeated peacock motifs and Arai Maadam architectural details, set within traditional zari registers. The strong colour contrast and motif scale give it the character of a vintage Kanchipuram composition.

Pallu: The navy pallu extends the border language through long vertical zari registers, peacock details and narrow contrasting woven accents, creating a highly structured shoulder drape.

Styling: Use a navy blouse to sharpen the Korvai contrast, or choose turmeric yellow for a more continuous ceremonial look. Gold jhumkas, jasmine and a clean pleated pallu suit it beautifully. The palette is especially apt for Navratri, Vijayadashami, Diwali, poojas, temple ceremonies and weddings.

What is Korvai in a Kanjeevaram saree?
Korvai is the traditional construction in which a contrasting border is structurally interlocked with the body rather than simply appearing as a colour change. It is what gives this turmeric yellow and navy saree such a crisp, deliberate border transition.
What makes the border on this yellow Kanjeevaram special?
The deep navy border carries repeated peacock motifs alongside Arai Maadam details in zari. Together with the strong yellow-blue contrast, they give the saree a distinctly vintage Kanchipuram visual language.
Is turmeric yellow appropriate for poojas and ceremonies?
Turmeric yellow is closely associated with auspicious ceremonial dressing, and the deep navy border keeps the colour grounded. This saree is especially suited to poojas, temple visits, festive occasions, weddings and family ceremonies.
What blouse would work with this Korvai saree?
A deep navy blouse will echo the Korvai border most directly, while a turmeric yellow blouse gives a more continuous look. The saree includes a 0.8 m running blouse piece, and custom stitching is available through Idam Living.
Is this Korvai saree Silk Mark certified?
Yes. It is listed within Idam Living's Silk Mark certified Pure Silk Kanchipuram workflow. Silk Mark verifies silk authenticity; it does not certify the Korvai name or individual motif design.
