Woven in the Zari Kattam tradition, the fine grid of zari is part of the visual rhythm of the body, while petite buttas add delicate points of gold. A radiant Manjal yellow, the colour of turmeric and late-afternoon marigolds, carries a fine, nearly weightless gold zari check with petite buttas scattered at measured intervals. Handwoven by artisan weaver families in Kanchipuram district, Tamil Nadu, for Idam Living. A saree of this complexity represents approximately 16 or more active days on the loom, with exact weaving time varying according to the individual saree. Read our story.
Border: An espresso-brown border is woven with large antique-gold peacocks and malar kodi flowering vines. The narrow forest-green selvedge adds a leaf-dark finish against the yellow body.
Pallu: The richly ornamental pallu pairs coffee-brown silk with a closely packed old-gold geometric lattice, floral zari panels, fine gold lines and dark-brown striped sections. Explore the Zari Kattam collection, or browse the wider pure silk Kanchipuram collection for more of this character.
Styling: Try a deep brown or forest-green blouse with antique-gold studs and a loosely braided hairstyle. The sunny body reads beautifully in natural light, and the darker pallu gives the drape a composed finish.
