Woven in the Butta tradition, A fresh thulir-pachai, the tender green of new leaves after rain, glows across a silk body dotted with small gold buttas. Its soft botanical colour is dramatically set against a saturated neelam-blue pallu and border. Handwoven by artisan weaver families in Kanchipuram district, Tamil Nadu, for Idam Living. A saree of this complexity represents approximately 14 or more active days on the loom, with exact weaving time varying according to the individual saree. Read our story.
Border: The vintage colour combination is framed by a deep neelam-blue border carrying broad thanga-zari ornamental medallions, traditional figurative weaving, floral scrollwork and tightly ordered geometric bands.
Pallu: A truly grand, intricate neelam-blue pallu is filled with finely detailed zari registers, circular ornamental medallions, complex geometric tracery and a succession of richly woven gold panels. The contrast between leaf green and deep blue gives this vintage Kanchipuram palette remarkable character.
Styling: Make the contrast deliberate with a deep neelam-blue raw-silk blouse, a wide squared neckline and long fitted sleeves edged in gold. A fresh-green blouse offers a quieter alternative. Pair with antique-gold earrings, an old-style coin necklace and a centre-parted bun.
