Sunset Orange Handwoven Pure Silk Kanjivaram Saree with Vairaoosi Grand Gold Zari Border

Sunset Orange Handwoven Pure Silk Kanjivaram Saree with Vairaoosi Grand Gold Zari Border

Draped for a TiE (The Indus Entrepreneurs) annual gala dinner, this glowing burnished-orange pure silk Kanchipuram saree is handwoven in the traditional Vairaoosi style. Fine needle-like zari lines are woven continuously across the body, creating a delicate all-over shimmer. Each saree takes 45 days from dyeing to weaving and cannot be replicated by machine. This saree is handwoven by our partner weaver families in Kunnam village in Kanchipuram district. Read our story.

Handwoven to order, not mass-produced. 45 days in the making. From dyed silk thread to finished weave, with about 20 of that on the loom itself.

The Vairaoosi body is woven in a glowing burnished-orange pure mulberry silk, the fine Vairaoosi weave giving the colour incredible depth as it moves between warm tangerine, copper and rich orange-gold in the light. Delicate Mayil (peacock) and Chakram motifs are handwoven in gold zari across the body.

The body leads into a spectacular broad zari border filled with intricate traditional detailing, continuing into a richly worked pallu that matches the grandeur of the border.

Give the blouse three-quarter sleeves in a deeper burnt-copper tone, a shade darker than the body, to ground the warm palette. Antique-gold jhumkas and a slim gold choker keep the jewellery restrained so the shifting tangerine-to-copper silk remains the focus.

Blouse Piece Included: 0.8m self-colour piece, with complimentary tailoring through August 27 ($30 value). See our Blouse Stitching Guide.
