Smoky Charcoal Grey Handwoven Pure Silk KanchiPattu Korvai Saree with Rani Pink Zari Border

Smoky Charcoal Grey Handwoven Pure Silk KanchiPattu Korvai Saree with Rani Pink Zari Border

Smoky Charcoal Grey gives this handwoven Pure Silk KanchiPattu Korvai saree an unusually sophisticated beginning. Neither flat black nor conventional grey, the silk carries a gentle warm taupe undertone that becomes more apparent as light travels across its handwoven surface. Large gold zari buttas are placed individually across the body, each one appearing almost like a small piece of jewellery against the restrained grey.

❖ Made to order, not off a shelf. This Korvai saree takes approximately 15–22 active days on the loom, as body and border are woven and interlocked together.

This is a confirmed Korvai composition in pure mulberry silk, woven with separate shuttles for the body and border whose wefts interlock at the point where the two colours meet — the defining construction technique behind every genuine Korvai. A saree of this type typically represents approximately 15 to 22 active days on the loom, although individual weaving time varies. Woven for Idam Living by skilled artisan families in the Kanchipuram district of Tamil Nadu. Read our story.

Body, Border and Pallu: The serenity of the body makes the arrival of Rani Pink especially dramatic. This is a true Korvai composition, where the contrasting body and border are worked with separate shuttles and interlocked during weaving rather than created as an applied border. The technique produces the beautifully decisive transition from smoky charcoal into saturated pink, while also representing one of the more demanding constructions associated with the Kanchipuram loom. The border is richly layered rather than relying on one oversized zari band. Repeated peacock motifs appear within ornamental gold zari panels, framed by fine patterned separators, a luminous geometric lattice section and a smaller leaf-like register along the edge. The effect is elaborate but disciplined, with each woven band contributing another level of detail against the vivid Rani Pink ground. The pallu expands that ornamentation into a striking field of Rani Pink and gold, combining dense geometric zari work with broad ornamental registers and richly woven side panels. Explore the Korvai collection, or browse the wider pure silk Kanchipuram collection for more of this character.

Styling: For a saturated counterpoint, style it with an emerald-green or deep teal blouse rather than matching the pink exactly. Antique gold jewellery will connect naturally to the zari, while a clean centre-parted low bun keeps the styling polished and lets the unusual grey, pink and green palette remain the focus.
