Sindoor Red Handwoven Pure Silk Kanjipuram Zari Kattam Saree with Green Selvedge

Sindoor Red Handwoven Pure Silk Kanjipuram Zari Kattam Saree with Green Selvedge

The colour does the first piece of work here: a glowing Sindoor red that carries the warmth of ceremonial Kanchipuram silk. A fine zari lattice runs across the body, while the narrow green selvedge gives the edge a crisp, unexpected contrast.

❖ Made to order, not off a shelf. This saree spent roughly 16 active days on the loom, in addition to dyeing, threading and finishing.

The Zari Kattam structure creates a fine metallic lattice across the red silk, balanced by small buttas that keep the body from reading as a continuous brocade. Handwoven by artisan weaver families in Kanchipuram district, Tamil Nadu, for Idam Living. A saree of this complexity represents approximately 16 or more active days on the loom, with exact weaving time varying according to the individual saree. Read our story.

Border: The border stays within the red family and is finished with traditional zari detailing, while a narrow green selvedge draws a precise contrast line along the edge.

Pallu: The bright red pallu is more concentrated, with a dense zari geometric field and repeated linear registers that catch the light strongly when worn open.

Styling: A green blouse can pick up the selvedge for a sharper traditional contrast, while red or antique gold keeps the look tonal. Pair with temple jewellery and jasmine for ceremonies, or a simpler gold blouse for Diwali dinners and festive gatherings. The colour is especially strong for poojas and wedding functions.

What is Zari Kattam in this red Kanjipuram saree?
Zari Kattam is the fine zari-grid structure woven across the silk body. On this Sindoor red saree, it creates a light metallic lattice while the small buttas add separate points of detail.
Why is the green selvedge worth noticing?
The green selvedge is a narrow contrast line at the edge of the red saree. It is a small detail, but it gives the border a crisp finish and creates a classic red-green Kanchipuram accent.
How would you style a Sindoor red Kanjipuram?
A green blouse will echo the selvedge, while red or antique gold keeps the look more tonal. Temple jewellery, jasmine and a clean pleated drape work especially well for poojas, festive occasions, weddings and ceremonies.
Is a blouse piece included?
Yes. The saree includes a 0.8 m running blouse piece within the 6.3 m total length. Custom blouse stitching is also available through Idam Living.
How should I store this pure silk saree?
Dry clean only and store folded in soft muslin away from direct sunlight. Change the fold periodically and avoid spraying perfume directly on the silk or zari.
