Sindoor Red Handwoven Pure Silk Kancheepuram Butta Saree with Gold Zari Border
Sindoor Red Handwoven Pure Silk Kancheepuram Butta Saree with Gold Zari Border
Sindoor Red carries the entire composition with remarkable clarity here, beginning as an open silk field scattered with small gold zari buttas and becoming progressively richer toward the edge. A tonal deep-red border introduces dense classic-gold ornament before opening into an extensively woven ceremonial pallu.
❖ Made to order, not off a shelf. This saree took 40 days — dyeing, threading, and roughly 14 on the loom — to complete.

The Butta technique shapes this Kancheepuram in pure mulberry silk, with small individually spaced gold zari buttas woven across a saturated Sindoor Red body. Handwoven by artisan weaver families in Kanchipuram district, Tamil Nadu, for Idam Living. A saree of this complexity represents approximately 14 or more active days on the loom, with exact weaving time varying according to the individual saree. Read our story.
Border: A tonal deep Sindoor Red border carries a broad classic-gold zari band with repeated bird-and-floral figurative motifs, circular floral-style ornament, small leaf-like edging and supporting geometric details.
Pallu: The Sindoor Red pallu is substantially richer than the body, with a dense classic-gold zari lattice filled with repeated circular medallion-like forms and smaller floral-style details, alongside a broad ornamental register of paisley-shaped forms, floral-vine work and multiple fine parallel zari bands.
Styling: Keep the saturated red central with an antique-gold blouse for a tonal ceremonial look, or introduce deep green for sharper contrast. Traditional gold jhumkas, one compact necklace and a low bun with jasmine will suit daytime functions. For an evening reception, a muted gold potli can echo the pallu without competing with the colour.
The Sindoor Red and classic-gold palette is especially suited to Navratri and Golu gatherings, Vijayadashami, Deepavali celebrations, weddings, receptions, temple programs, arangetrams, classical performances and other festive occasions, ceremonies, cultural gatherings and special occasions.
