Silver Grey Handwoven Pure Silk KanchiPattu Butta Saree with Arakku Red Banarasi-Style Jaal Zari Border
Silver Grey Handwoven Pure Silk KanchiPattu Butta Saree with Arakku Red Banarasi-Style Jaal Zari Border
Silver Grey is almost completely transformed by weaving in this pure silk KanchiPattu saree. Fine flowering stems, leaves, buds and smaller bird-like forms travel continuously through the body in rose, muted red and warm metallic tones, creating a remarkably tone-intensive jaal-like surface. The cool silk remains visible underneath, but never feels plain. Against it, an Arakku Red border arrives with an extraordinary concentration of warm-gold zari, giving the saree the visual abundance of a Banarasi-style Kanchi fusion while its provenance and construction remain firmly Kanchipuram.
❖ This saree took 40 days to make — the silk is dyed, threaded, and hand-woven over roughly 16 on the loom.

This is a confirmed Butta composition in pure mulberry silk, its all-over floral jaal-style surface carrying the Butta tradition into a continuously worked field of colour and metal. A saree of this type typically represents approximately 12 to 16 active days on the loom, although individual weaving time varies. Woven for Idam Living by skilled artisan families in the Kanchipuram district of Tamil Nadu. Read our story.
Body, Border and Pallu: Flowers, curling stems, leaves and smaller forms visually connect across the Silver Grey silk in rose, muted red and warm metallic tones, creating the impression of an uninterrupted woven garden that shifts with the light. The Arakku Red border carries prominent stylized birds inside oval zari medallions, alternating with flowering trees, smaller birds, foliage and densely woven botanical detail. The pallu moves through further registers, combining fine geometric fields, miniature repeated ornament and a clearly defined procession of elephants. Browse the wider pure silk Kanchipuram collection for more of this character.
Styling: Let the Arakku Red lead the styling. A blouse in the same deep red creates the strongest traditional contrast, while Silver Grey gives the saree a quieter and more contemporary continuity. Antique or temple gold jewellery works naturally with the richness of the zari, but the textile already carries enough visual detail to need very little else. A polished low bun or long braid keeps the silhouette composed for weddings, receptions, temple celebrations, Navratri, Dussehra, Diwali and significant family occasions.
