Scarlet Red Handwoven Pure Silk Kanchipuram Saree with Zari Kattam and Vanasringaram Butta

For the Pongal morning, when the sugarcane is brought into the courtyard and the pongal pot begins to bubble over in auspicious overflow, the silk saree worn by the women of the house is not decoration — it is participation in the ceremony itself. Within each field, Vanasringaram Butta are woven in gold: Mayil (peacock), Yazhi (the leonine mythical figure), and horse motifs rotating through the grid across the full length of the saree, the royal court iconography of Kanchipuram's grandest weaving tradition rendered in gold on scarlet.

The border is a dark maroon silk field carrying a grand Vanasringaram composition in pure gold zari — the same Mayil and Yazhi figures now woven at full border scale, surrounded by layered bands of dense geometric zari. The pallu opens into a broad Vanasringaram field in pure gold, the figures at full scale against the gold ground, structured for a visual impact calibrated to the most significant ceremonial moments.
