The Rettapet EditSaraswati

Saraswati Maroon Black Striped Zariless Korvai Kanchipuram Silk Saree with Ivory Rettapet Border

Saraswati Maroon Black Striped Zariless Korvai Kanchipuram Silk Saree with Ivory Rettapet Border

Like dark jamun fruit against jasmine-white temple flowers, Saraswati brings together an arakku-maroon and near-black striped silk body with an expansive, warm-ivory contrast. Fine pale lines keep the stripes beautifully articulated. The broad off-white Rettapet borders are framed by two rhythmic rows of dark rudraksha-inspired forms, their precise geometry lending the silk an old-Kanchi character without zari. The seer pallu carries the story forward in narrow charcoal and grey lines against ivory, with a contrast woven blouse to complete the composition. A striking silk-on-silk study in light, shadow and line.

❖ Woven on traditional handlooms by artisan families in Kanchipuram, Tamil Nadu, where generations of weaving knowledge shape every saree.
