Sapphire Blue Handwoven Pure Silk KanchiPattu Saree with Pochampally Butta and Ikat Border

When two distinct weaving traditions meet in a single saree — the Kanchipuram loom and the Pochampally ikat — the result is something that belongs to both and neither. This sapphire blue KanchiPattu is one of those rare pieces. Woven in the Butta tradition with Pochampally Butta motifs set in gold and silver zari across the body, the border carries a full Pochampally ikat pattern — the resist-dyed geometric motifs of Telangana rendered in multicolour silk thread in the Kanchipuram border structure.

The body is sapphire blue — deep, clear, and luminous — and across it, Pochampally Buttas are placed in gold and silver zari along vertical Seepu Reku lines, each butta a compact form that references the ikat diamond motif of the Pochampally tradition. The body reads as both Kanchipuram and Pochampally simultaneously — a deliberate and considered piece of weaver's craft.

The border is a wide Pochampally ikat panel in multicolour silk thread — teal, rose, gold, and blue geometric diamonds and arrows in the classic ikat resist-dye pattern, rendered here entirely on the Kanchipuram loom. The pallu continues the ikat border language in the same multicolour Pochampally pattern, the sapphire blue ground of the body meeting the ikat border in a combination that is both bold and technically extraordinary.
