Sandalwood Ivory Zari Kattam Kai Korvai Kanjivaram Silk Saree with Peacock Blue-Green Border
Sandalwood Ivory Zari Kattam Kai Korvai Kanjivaram Silk Saree with Peacock Blue-Green Border
Sandalwood Ivory and Peacock Blue-Green: Sunlight Beside a Peacock-Feather Lake
Like sunlight on pale sandalwood beside a peacock-feather lake, ivory gold meets blue and green in a shimmer of silk.
The silk body is pale sandalwood ivory, a warm cream with delicate champagne and muted golden undertones. The contrast border is a shot-colour (iridescent) interplay of deep Peacock Blue and green: cobalt-to-peacock blue in one angle, with emerald and Mayil Kazhuthu green-blue flashes in another. It is a blue-and-green shot silk, not a flat solid blue.
The zari reads as refined, soft gold; the pallu appears blue-green under a substantial veil of golden zari. Deep green tassels are visible at the edge.

The Korvai technique shapes this Kanjivaram in pure mulberry silk, with a Kai Korvai construction: the contrast border is woven separately and hand-interlocked with the body at the loom, a true structural join rather than a printed or stitched-on edge or a simple colour contrast. Handwoven by artisan weaver families in Kanchipuram district, Tamil Nadu, for Idam Living. A saree of this complexity represents approximately 20 or more active days on the loom, with exact weaving time varying according to the individual saree. Read our story.
The Body: Zari Kattam with a Central Kamalam Butta
The ivory body carries Zari Kattam: a closely organised grid of gold zari checks, forming a restrained, all-over checked structure.
Within the grid, the Kamalam (lotus) butta is woven as the central ornamental focus of the repeating checked design. The pattern shifts with the silk's light, sometimes reading as pale gold squares and sometimes as a delicate floral lattice; the zari checks and the lotus motif are distinct elements, not plain checks alone.
The Border: Kai Korvai with Kamalam and Kolam Suzhi
The contrasting Kai Korvai border has a blue-green shot-colour silk ground with two separated narrow gold zari ornamental bands. Alternating Kamalam (lotus) and Kolam Suzhi (curving, spiral-like kolam ornament) repeat within the bands, framed by slim geometric zari lines.
The green-blue iridescence is especially visible at the lower edge and in the fold transitions. The border is joined to the body by true Kai Korvai hand-interlocking at the loom. Explore the Korvai collection, or browse the wider pure silk Kanchipuram collection for more of this character.
The Grand Pallu
The grand pallu shifts from peacock-blue silk into an opulent field of closely woven gold zari. Its central expanse has fine, compact geometric latticing, while the long side bands are densely ornamented with scrolling floral, paisley- and bird-inspired motifs, smaller linear zari bands and sharply finished decorative edges.
Gold dominates the visual surface, while the cool peacock tones remain visible underneath and at the outer margins. The combination creates a magnificent, luminous contrast with the light sandalwood body.
