Ruby and Bottle Green Handwoven Pure Silk Kanjivaram Saree with Kamalam Butta and Varisaipet Korvai Border
Ruby and Bottle Green Handwoven Pure Silk Kanjivaram Saree with Kamalam Butta and Varisaipet Korvai Border
At a family portrait sitting for a milestone anniversary, the sarees worn by the women become the visual record of that generation — and a saree chosen for that morning must carry both colour and character in equal measure. This Kanjivaram lightweight saree from Idam Living, woven by the weaver families of Kunnam village near Kanchipuram, does exactly that. Woven using finer 2-ply and 3-ply mulberry silk yarns, it carries lighter weight and easier movement while retaining full Kanchipuram craftsmanship — the same loom, the same silk, the same weaver; only the weight changes.
The body is ruby silk — a colour of deep saturated warmth, richer and more concentrated than rose, with the full depth of the red spectrum held within a single field of pure silk — and across it Kamalam Butta are scattered in gold zari and silk thread: the lotus motif, compact and precise, woven in alternating gold zari and coloured silk thread that gives each butta a layered warmth against the ruby ground. The Korvai construction joins body and border structurally on the loom: body and border woven separately and interlocked, producing a strong seamless junction between contrasting sections.
The border is bottle green silk, and across it a Varisaipet multi-band structure runs in gold, rust, and silk thread — the bands layered in the traditional multi-register format, geometric diamond and honeycomb motifs alternating across the border width in a palette that brings warmth and visual richness to the green ground. The pallu continues the same multicolour Varisaipet banding at full pallu width.
