Royal Violet Handwoven Pure Silk Kanjipuram Saree with Vairaoosi Meenakari Peacock Border
Royal Violet Handwoven Pure Silk Kanjipuram Saree with Vairaoosi Meenakari Peacock Border
Draped for a Republic Day celebration hosted by the Indian community on January 26th, this vibrant jewel-toned violet pure silk Kanchipuram saree, made even more striking by its unexpected fresh green selvedge, is handwoven in the traditional Vairaoosi style. Fine needle-like zari lines are woven continuously across the body, creating a delicate all-over shimmer. Each saree takes 45 days from dyeing to weaving and cannot be replicated by machine. Handwoven by our partner weaver families in Kunnam village in Kanchipuram district. Read our story.
✖ Handwoven to order, not mass-produced. Nothing here comes off a shelf. 45 days of dyeing, threading, and weaving go into every saree, 20 of that on the loom.
The Vairaoosi body is woven in a vibrant jewel-toned violet pure mulberry silk, the fine needle-like zari lines giving the purple silk wonderful depth and luminosity, edged with an unexpected fresh green selvedge.
The highlight is an exquisite handwoven Mayil (peacock) motif on the border in gold zari, accented with delicate Meenakari detailing, with the artistry continuing into the pallu through beautiful panels of handwoven peacocks.
Give the blouse a boat neckline in a self-colour violet, letting earrings do the talking: uncut diamond or polki studs pick up the Meenakari colourwork on the border. Wear the pallu open over the shoulder so the handwoven peacock panels are fully visible, hair in a clean low bun.
Blouse Piece Included: 0.8m self-colour piece, with complimentary tailoring through August 27 ($30 value). See our Blouse Stitching Guide.
