Royal Indigo Violet Handwoven Pure Silk Kanchipuram Vairaoosi Saree with Gold Zari Buttas and Traditional Zari Border
Royal Indigo Violet Handwoven Pure Silk Kanchipuram Vairaoosi Saree with Gold Zari Buttas and Traditional Zari Border
Royal Indigo Violet gives this handwoven Pure Silk Kanchipuram saree a remarkable jewel-toned depth. The colour moves between saturated violet, indigo and deep blue-purple as the natural silk catches the light, becoming brighter across open folds and almost midnight-toned in shadow. Across the body, exceptionally fine Vairaoosi lines create a delicate pinstriped surface beneath small gold zari buttas placed at measured intervals.
❖ Handwoven to order over 45 days — dyeing through to the final weave, no two pieces identical.

This is a confirmed Vairaoosi composition in pure mulberry silk: exceptionally fine, closely spaced linear weaving creates a delicate pinstripe-like texture across the silk. A saree of this type typically represents approximately 16 to 20 active days on the loom, although individual weaving time varies. Woven for Idam Living by skilled artisan families in the Kanchipuram district of Tamil Nadu. Read our story.
Body, Border and Pallu: The beauty of Vairaoosi lies in its subtlety. From a distance the body reads as a continuous field of rich violet, but closer inspection reveals hundreds of fine parallel woven lines catching the light individually. The traditional border introduces a much richer visual language, with broad antique-gold zari ornament, smaller geometric registers and warm copper-gold detailing. A narrow Forest Green finishing edge gives the border an especially elegant contrast against the violet. The pallu becomes considerably more elaborate, opening into a dense field of minute gold zari motifs framed by long traditional ornamental panels. The concentration of zari creates a beautiful shift from the restrained Vairaoosi body to a richly ceremonial shoulder drape, while the Royal Indigo Violet remains visible beneath the gold and keeps the composition deeply tonal. Explore the Vairaoosi collection, or browse the wider pure silk Kanchipuram collection for more of this character.
Styling: Let the violet remain the focal point. A matching Royal Indigo Violet blouse gives the saree a beautifully uninterrupted finish, while Forest Green can echo the narrow border edge for a more traditional contrast. Antique-gold jewellery works especially well with this palette. Choose one sculptural necklace or substantial earrings and finish with jasmine around a centre-parted low bun or a sleek traditional braid.
