This is a confirmed Rettapet composition in pure mulberry silk, with a broad woven border built up in structural registers typical of Rettapet construction. A saree of this type typically represents approximately 18 active days on the loom, although individual weaving time varies. Woven for Idam Living by skilled artisan families in the Kanchipuram district of Tamil Nadu. Read our story.
Body, Border and Pallu: The body is covered with beautifully shaped floral buttas arranged in disciplined vertical rows, each petite antique gold zari motif carrying a soft botanical silhouette that creates an elegant all-over rhythm without overwhelming the brilliant blue silk. The lower portion transitions into a broad Royal Blue border richly articulated with antique gold zari, where traditional Yanai, or elephant, motifs repeat across the border in framed panels for a stately ceremonial quality. Fine Deep Green and Raspberry Pink woven accents run alongside the gold registers, adding subtle colour definition and depth, while the broad border is balanced by the orderly floral buttas above it, keeping the body graceful even as the lower edge carries greater visual weight. The pallu develops the zari work further through long vertical antique gold registers, repeated traditional motifs and finely structured ornamental bands, feeling architectural, rhythmic and richly ceremonial against the Royal Blue silk. Explore the Rettapet collection, or browse the wider pure silk Kanchipuram collection for more of this character.
Styling: Keep the blouse in Royal Blue for an elegant uninterrupted look and let the antique gold border remain the focal point. Traditional gold or temple jewellery works beautifully with the Yanai motifs, while a fine Deep Green or Raspberry Pink piping detail can echo the subtle colour accents woven through the border.
