Woven in the Butta tradition, A vivid royal-blue silk body, reminiscent of the first blue of an indigo dusk, scattered with small Mayil Chakram zari buttas and rounded floral medallions in measured intervals. Handwoven by artisan weaver families in Kanchipuram district, Tamil Nadu, for Idam Living. A saree of this complexity represents approximately 14 or more active days on the loom, with exact weaving time varying according to the individual saree. Read our story.

Border: A rich deep plum-purple border, close to the dark skin of Naval Pazham fruit, carrying a broad antique-gold zari band of stylised peacock and flowering-vine forms. Fine triangular and geometric zari edging separates the plum border from the brilliant blue body.

Pallu: An expansive antique-gold zari pallu with a dense miniature geometric lattice, side registers of circular medallions and floral motifs, and a deep plum-purple silk end panel.

Styling: Pair the royal-blue body with a deep plum blouse to repeat the border, or a dull-gold blouse for a brighter festive finish. Antique-gold studs and a carefully pleated shoulder drape allow the pallu lattice and border to remain in view.

Frequently bought together

What makes this a Butta Kanchipuram saree?
Butta refers to the individual woven motifs spaced across the body. In this saree, Mayil Chakram motifs and small circular zari medallions punctuate the silk, while the border and pallu are substantially richer.
How prominent is the plum border when draped?
The plum border contrasts sharply with the royal-blue body. Its broad gold-zari band makes a distinct frame around the saree.
Is the gold work equally dense across the entire saree?
No. The body carries widely spaced zari buttas, while the pallu has a much closer woven lattice and the border carries large ornamented figures.
Can Idam Living make a plum blouse for this blue saree?
A plum blouse would connect beautifully with the border. Share measurements and preferred design details to discuss custom blouse stitching.
Are small handloom variations normal?
Small changes in yarn tension and occasional thread joins may reflect handweaving. Stains, tears and significant defects should not be treated as normal handloom character.
