Raspberry Rose Red Handwoven Pure Silk Kanchipuram Rettapet Saree with Zari Mayil Chakram Buttas
Raspberry Rose Red Handwoven Pure Silk Kanchipuram Rettapet Saree with Zari Mayil Chakram Buttas
The red of rose petals after rain, brightened by the glow of morning sunlight. Across the raspberry silk, petite mayil chakram buttas rest like droplets of gold; the rettapet borders lead into a pallu luminous with a close-set diamond lattice and ornamented seer.
❖ Made to order, not off a shelf. This saree spent roughly 16 active days on the loom, in addition to dyeing, threading and finishing.

Woven in the Rettapet tradition, this saree draws its measured rhythm from twin gold-toned zari border registers framing a rich red body. Small mayil chakram zari buttas are set across the body. Handwoven by artisan weaver families in Kanchipuram district, Tamil Nadu, for Idam Living. A saree of this complexity represents approximately 16 or more active days on the loom, with exact weaving time varying according to the individual saree. Read our story.
Border: two fine, orderly registers of gold zari floral and leaf motifs, separated by the rich red of the body. The traditional Rettapet pairs two parallel border registers in gold-toned zari.
Pallu: a densely worked gold zari geometric diamond lattice, with ornate vertical registers and a strong seer finish. The seer arrangement is elaborate and densely ornamented in gold-toned zari.
Styling: Pair with a soft antique-gold blouse, traditional gold studs and a neatly pleated shoulder drape. The small body buttas keep the field open, giving the Rettapet borders and rich pallu room to stand out at weddings, temple functions or classical-music gatherings.
