Deep Ruby Red and Bottle Green Handwoven Pure Silk Kanjivaram Saree with Varisaipet Border
Deep Ruby Red and Bottle Green Handwoven Pure Silk Kanjivaram Saree with Varisaipet Border
A Tamil family in Herndon, Virginia, is attending a Navarathri Golu, and the women hosting the celebration are choosing sarees that carry the vibrancy of the nine nights.
This Kanjivaram pure silk saree presents itself in deep ruby red — a rich, jewel-toned red that carries both warmth and depth, sitting at the heart of the spectrum that Tamil ceremonial tradition has always favoured — woven in the Lightweight Silk tradition with finer 2-ply and 3-ply mulberry silk yarns. Fine horizontal lines run across the body in the silk weave, creating a subtle surface texture that catches the light differently as the saree moves through a lamp-lit Golu evening. A small Floral Butta in gold zari appears at intervals, barely breaking the depth of the red ground.
The border runs in bottle green with a Varisaipet structure — the traditional multi-band border of repeated woven lines — carrying antique gold zari geometric Kamalam roundels, chevron bands, and fine lattice work across the full border width. The pallu continues the bottle green in a layered zari repeat that gives the saree its striking finish — the deep ruby and bottle green pairing being one of the most classically grounded colour combinations in the Kanchipuram tradition.
