Radiant Royal Blue Handwoven Pure Silk Kanchi Pattu Saree with Gandaberunda Zari Kattam
Radiant Royal Blue Handwoven Pure Silk Kanchi Pattu Saree with Gandaberunda Zari Kattam
Draped for an evening at an Indian consulate Independence Day reception, this spectacular radiant royal blue pure silk Kanchipuram saree is handwoven in the Zari Kattam style: fine zari threads intersect across the silk body to form a luminous grid, in a vivid, jewel-toned blue. Each saree takes 42 days from dyeing to weaving and cannot be replicated by machine. Woven on traditional looms by families in Kunnam village in Kanchipuram district, Tamil Nadu. Read our story.
❖ Handwoven to order, not mass-produced. Handwoven, start to finish. 42 days — dyeing the thread, setting up the loom, and weaving the final piece.

The Zari Kattam body is meticulously handwoven in radiant royal blue pure mulberry silk, with fine intersecting zari lines forming a luminous grid across the self-colour ground, and delicate woven motifs appearing within the body.
The border makes a dramatic statement with an exceptionally elaborate Gandaberunda motif — the legendary double-headed bird rendered in intricate zari weaving. The restrained border construction allows the large Gandaberunda to become the focal point, giving this saree a distinctive, almost collectible quality.
Styling Tip
Carry the Gandaberunda story into the blouse with a beautifully embroidered Gandaberunda motif on the sleeve or back, kept to a classic, clean self-colour silhouette. Uncut diamond studs alone complete the jewellery, with the pallu worn open to display the border's scale and hair in a sleek centre-parted bun.
