Radiant red silk is ordered by fine vertical zari stripes before meeting a pale lavender Rettapet border. Rettapet uses traditional twin-register border detailing, giving the edge a clearly layered frame while the contrasting pallu introduces a much lighter field of silk and gold. Handwoven by artisan weaver families in Kanchipuram district, Tamil Nadu, for Idam Living. A saree of this complexity represents approximately 18 or more active days on the loom, with exact weaving time varying according to the individual saree. Read our story.

Border: Pale lavender silk carries rows of stacked gold zari work in the Rettapet double-register treatment, sharply contrasting the radiant red body.

Pallu: The pallu opens into pale lavender with a dense gold zari field and repeated woven border rows, reversing the strong red-led balance of the body.

Styling: Choose pale lavender for the blouse if you want to emphasise the Rettapet contrast, or continue the red for a more traditional silhouette. Warm gold jewellery and a precise pleated drape highlight the vertical zari lines particularly well.

Appropriate for Navratri, Vijayadashami, Diwali, pujas, weddings, receptions, temple ceremonies, festive occasions, ceremonies and cultural gatherings.

What does Rettapet mean in this Kanchipuram saree?
Rettapet refers to the traditional twin-register or double-border treatment. It creates a more strongly framed edge than a single uncomplicated border.
How is the red body woven?
Fine zari stripes run vertically across the radiant-red silk body, with small spaced gold buttas appearing between the lines.
What makes the pale lavender contrast unusual?
Instead of repeating the red body colour, the border and pallu introduce a much paler lavender field. This makes the gold zari appear brighter and gives the saree a distinctive two-colour composition.
Can Idam Living make a custom blouse for this saree?
Yes. Custom blouse stitching is available to your measurements.
Are small variations normal in a handwoven saree?
Minor variations in tension, yarn joins or motif placement can occur in handloom weaving. Actual damage, stains or significant defects are treated separately and are not described as normal handloom character.
