Purple Handwoven Pure Silk Kanjeevaram Zari Kattam Saree with Gold and Silver-Tone Buttas
Purple Handwoven Pure Silk Kanjeevaram Zari Kattam Saree with Gold and Silver-Tone Buttas
A saturated purple field is crossed by a precise metallic lattice, with alternating gold and silver-toned buttas placed inside the geometry. Some read as circular floral medallions, while others are smaller stylised traditional forms, creating an unusually lively Zari Kattam composition without disturbing the disciplined grid.
❖ Made to order, not off a shelf. This saree spent roughly 16 active days on the loom, in addition to dyeing, threading and finishing.

The Zari Kattam structure establishes a fine grid across the body, with alternating metallic-tone buttas positioned at measured intervals. The mixture of circular medallions and smaller stylised woven forms gives the geometry a more collected, heirloom-like character. Handwoven by artisan weaver families in Kanchipuram district, Tamil Nadu, for Idam Living. A saree of this complexity represents approximately 16 or more active days on the loom, with exact weaving time varying according to the individual saree. Read our story.
Border: Several handwoven zari registers are stacked one above another, combining narrow line work, small repeated motifs and broader woven bands, finished with a deep green outer edge.
Pallu: The pallu becomes densely woven with a geometric zari field, surrounded by vertical motif bands and the same layered border vocabulary seen along the saree.
Styling: A deep green blouse echoes the narrow edge beautifully, while antique gold allows the purple to remain dominant. Keep the pleats sharply arranged so the Kattam lattice remains visible. For evening events, a single sculptural gold necklace and pulled-back hair are enough.
