Pistachio Green Handwoven Pure Silk Kanjipuram Butta Saree with Gandaberunda and Paisley Motifs

Pistachio Green Handwoven Pure Silk Kanjipuram Butta Saree with Gandaberunda and Paisley Motifs

Pistachio green with the faintest lime cast gives this silk a particularly fresh glow. Across the body, elaborate Gandaberunda and paisley motifs alternate in zari, allowing the motifs to read clearly against the pale green ground before the saree builds into its broader woven border.

❖ Made to order, not off a shelf. This saree spent roughly 14 active days on the loom, in addition to dyeing, threading and finishing.

Woven as a Butta Kanchipuram, the body is defined by individually spaced motifs rather than a continuous all-over pattern. Gandaberunda and paisley motifs alternate across the green field, creating a clear rhythm of figurative and curved forms. Handwoven by artisan weaver families in Kanchipuram district, Tamil Nadu, for Idam Living. A saree of this complexity represents approximately 14 or more active days on the loom, with exact weaving time varying according to the individual saree. Read our story.

Border: The lower edge develops into a broad gold-toned zari border built from several stacked registers, balancing the spacious arrangement of motifs across the body.

Pallu: The pallu is densely woven in a small geometric zari field and framed with traditional motif bands, carrying the pistachio-green colour through to the end of the drape.

Styling: Keep the blouse within pistachio, deeper green or antique gold depending how traditional you want the look to feel. Temple jewellery and jasmine work beautifully for ceremonies, while pearls, a neat bun and minimal bangles make the fresh green particularly suitable for daytime festivities.

What does Butta mean in this Kanchipuram saree?
Butta refers to the individually repeated woven motifs placed across the saree body. Here, the open spacing allows the pistachio-green silk to remain visible around each motif.
Which motifs alternate across this saree?
The body alternates elaborate Gandaberunda and paisley motifs in zari. They are intentionally separated rather than woven as a continuous all-over pattern.
How would you describe the colour?
The main impression is fresh pistachio green with a tiny lime cast. The silk's sheen can make the balance between those two green notes shift slightly under different lighting.
Is a blouse piece included?
Yes. The saree measures 6.3 m in total and includes a 0.8 m running blouse piece. Custom blouse stitching is also available through Idam Living.
What does Silk Mark certification tell me?
Silk Mark is used as a silk-authenticity assurance framework in India. Idam Living is a Silk Mark authorised user and provides its certification reference on the product page.
