Woven in the Zari Kattam tradition, A pearl-ivory silk body is crossed by fine, closely spaced gold zari kattam lines and dotted with tiny gold buttas. Its quiet gleam recalls morning light on pale temple stone. Handwoven by artisan weaver families in Kanchipuram district, Tamil Nadu, for Idam Living. A saree of this complexity represents approximately 16 or more active days on the loom, with exact weaving time varying according to the individual saree. Read our story.

Border: A softly shimmering pale-gold Varisaipet border combines fine veldhari bands with a woven floral and scroll register. A slender thulir-pachai fresh-green selvedge offers the crispest contrast. The same border detailing is intended for the running blouse piece, including its sleeve edge.

Pallu: A grand ornamental pallu expands into a richly worked gold-on-ivory field with dense fine-patterned brocade, intricately detailed traditional scrollwork and carefully spaced metallic stripe panels. Its bright gold surface contrasts with the restrained lines of the body.

Styling: Try a fitted pearl-ivory blouse with the matching gold Varisaipet sleeve border, a gently squared neckline and three-quarter sleeves. For contrast, choose a young-leaf green silk blouse. Finish with uncut-polki studs, a low bun and a slim gold bangle.

Frequently bought together

What is Zari Kattam in this ivory Kanjivaram?
Zari Kattam describes the fine grid formed by metallic threads across the ivory body. Here the grid stays delicate, allowing the small gold buttas and broad border to stand out.
What is special about the fresh-green edge?
A narrow thulir-pachai, or new-leaf green, selvedge traces the pale gold border. This restrained green line gives the ivory and gold a fresh finish.
Can the Varisaipet border be carried onto the blouse?
The blouse is planned with the corresponding multi-band Varisaipet and veldhari border treatment. Discuss the sleeve placement when arranging Idam Living custom stitching.
Is the pallu as simple as the main body?
No. The body has subtle zari lines, while the pallu is much denser with ornate gold brocade and fine patterned panels.
Why may the ivory silk appear warmer in evening lighting?
The metallic threads reflect the surrounding light, so the gold can look stronger indoors. The fabric remains the same; daylight photos can help assess its true colour.
