Peacock Neck Blue-Green Double-Shade Handwoven Pure Silk Kanjivaram Butta Saree with Veena Peacock motifs and Sky Blue Zari Border
Peacock Neck Blue-Green Double-Shade Handwoven Pure Silk Kanjivaram Butta Saree with Veena Peacock motifs and Sky Blue Zari Border
Peacock Neck Blue-Green gives this handwoven Pure Silk Kanjivaram saree an extraordinary sense of movement before the motifs are even noticed. The shot colour shifts continuously between jewel green, saturated teal and luminous peacock blue as the silk catches the light. Some folds appear almost emerald while the next turns distinctly blue, creating the mesmerizing double-shade effect for which this colour family is loved.

This is a confirmed Butta composition in pure mulberry silk, with large circular gold zari medallion buttas — each combining a Veena musical instrument and Peacock motif — spaced widely across the body. A saree of this type typically represents approximately 5 to 9 active days on the loom, although individual weaving time varies. Woven for Idam Living by skilled artisan families in the Kanchipuram district of Tamil Nadu. Read our story.
Body, Border and Pallu: Across the body are unusually large circular gold zari buttas, each composed as an ornate medallion rather than a conventional small motif. Look closely and the design reveals a Veena, the classical Indian stringed musical instrument, worked together with Peacock imagery inside the circular frame. The scale and narrative detail make this a rare and distinctive motif combination, with generous open silk around each medallion allowing both the zari work and the changing blue-green body colour to be appreciated. The border introduces an equally unexpected colour transition: brilliant Sky Blue silk frames the Peacock Neck body, carrying broad antique-gold zari registers built from diamonds, interlocking geometry and finely scaled ornamental bands. The pallu opens into a luminous Sky Blue and gold composition, with a dense lattice of repeating ornamental forms framed by richly woven floral registers. Explore the Butta collection, or browse the wider pure silk Kanchipuram collection for more of this character.
Styling: Style it with a deep emerald blouse for tonal depth, cobalt or royal blue to draw out the cooler side of the shot silk, or antique gold for a more ceremonial finish. Gold jewellery and a centre-parted low bun or long polished braid will allow the remarkable Veena-Peacock medallions and shifting Peacock Neck colour to remain the focus.
