Peacock Blue Handwoven Pure Silk Kanjivaram Saree with Varisaipet Chedi Butta and Korvai Magenta Border
Peacock Blue Handwoven Pure Silk Kanjivaram Saree with Varisaipet Chedi Butta and Korvai Magenta Border
Shot colour peacock blue-green in Kanchipuram silk is one of those grounds that cannot be explained until it is seen — a body that shifts between deep teal, blue-green, and turquoise depending on the light and the drape, the two-tone silk creating an almost iridescent surface that is entirely unique to pure mulberry silk. This Kanjivaram is woven in the Varisaipet tradition — the traditional multi-band border structure with repeated woven lines — with the body’s own surface rhythm carrying the Varisaipet character. Woven by our family’s artisan weaver families in Kunnam village near Kanchipuram, Tamil Nadu.
The shot colour peacock blue-green body carries Chedi Butta in gold zari — fine creeper and floral motifs woven continuously into the body field, each one small and precisely rendered, creating a sustained decorative rhythm across the full width of the peacock silk. In a shot-colour ground, the Chedi Butta seem to float and shift with the body’s colour movement, appearing deeper in the teal register and more vivid in the blue-green.
The deep magenta Korvai border — where body and border are woven separately and structurally interlocked on the loom — arrives as a definitive colour statement against the peacock blue-green body. Dense Varisaipet gold zari bands in the border add structural weight, and the full-gold pallu in the same Varisaipet structure completes the saree at its highest ceremonial register.
Styling: Shot peacock blue-green and magenta is one of the most striking Kanchipuram colour combinations. A magenta silk blouse picks up the border colour; a peacock blue-green blouse creates a bold self-colour body effect. Pair with antique gold or emerald-and-ruby set jewellery. This saree photographs spectacularly in daylight and is an exceptional choice for weddings and Navarathri evenings.
