Peacock Blue Handwoven Pure Silk Kanjipuram Saree with Kanchi Kattam and Pillayar Reku Ivory Border
Peacock Blue Handwoven Pure Silk Kanjipuram Saree with Kanchi Kattam and Pillayar Reku Ivory Border
For a mukurtham celebrated at the ancestral home, every woman in attendance understands that her saree is her contribution to the occasion's visual memory — the choices made on that morning become part of the family archive, recalled at every subsequent gathering. This Kanjipuram saree from Idam Living, woven by the weaver families of Kunnam village near Kanchipuram, is built for exactly that kind of lasting presence. It is woven in the Kanchi Kattam weave: intersecting silk threads form a structured checkered grid across the body, the geometry precise and measured, each intersection a point where warp and weft cross in perfectly calibrated colour.
The body is peacock blue silk — a colour that carries the full depth of the bird's plumage in its blue-forward register — and across it the Kanchi Kattam grid runs in fine zari, the intersecting lines forming a luminous lattice that gives the body its characteristic shimmer. The grid is even and structured across the full length of the saree, the geometry of the weave creating a visual rhythm that is simultaneously precise and alive with movement as the silk catches the light.
The border is ivory — the pale, warm white of unbleached silk — and it opens with the Pillayar Reku at the transition point: the sacred Ganesha motif woven as a continuous line at the body-border junction, each Pillayar figure rendered in the pale gold of the ivory-ground zari, the blessing of Vighneshwara invoked at every step the wearer takes. The ivory border carries Rettapet parallel lines in pale gold, and the pallu continues in ivory with the same structured Rettapet banding. The contrast between peacock blue and ivory is clean and definitive, a palette suited to the morning hours of a family ceremony.
