Draped for a Thiruvannamalai Karthigai Deepam observance at temples in the USA, this peacock blue Pure Kanchipuram Silk saree is handwoven in the traditional Vairaoosi style. Fine needle-like zari lines are woven continuously across the body, creating a delicate all-over shimmer. Each saree takes 45 days from dyeing to weaving and cannot be replicated by machine. The Vairaoosi body is woven in a deep, luminous peacock blue pure mulberry silk, the fine needle-like zari lines giving the colour remarkable depth as it shifts through sapphire, indigo and flashes of emerald green in the light. Mayil (peacock) and Chakram motifs are individually handwoven in gold zari across the body.

The saree is finished with a richly woven traditional gold zari border, carrying the same Mayil and Chakram vocabulary through to a matching pallu.

Let the peacock blue silk carry the eye, then introduce one deliberate surprise: a deep aubergine raw-silk blouse for contrast against the shimmering body.
