Parrot Green Handwoven Pure Silk KanchiPattu Korvai Saree with Silk-Thread Buttas and Purple Mayil Zari Border

Parrot Green Handwoven Pure Silk KanchiPattu Korvai Saree with Silk-Thread Buttas and Purple Mayil Zari Border

Parrot Green gives this handwoven Pure Silk KanchiPattu Korvai saree an immediately joyful presence. The colour is bright, fresh and unmistakably festive, while scattered silk-thread buttas bring small flashes of Rani Pink, Orange and deeper earthy tones across the body. Some appear as petite circular forms while others take on charming figurative shapes, creating a playful rhythm against the luminous green silk.

❖ From raw silk to finished saree: 45 days, including about 20 of hand-weaving on the loom.

This is a confirmed Korvai composition in pure mulberry silk. The Parrot Green body and Deep Purple contrast border are worked with separate shuttles, their wefts carefully interlocked at the junction while the saree is being woven — the defining structural feature of genuine Kanchipuram Korvai construction. A saree of this type typically represents approximately 8 to 14 active days on the loom, although individual weaving time varies. Woven for Idam Living by skilled artisan families in the Kanchipuram district of Tamil Nadu. Read our story.

Body, Border and Pallu: The transition into Deep Purple is where the Korvai construction becomes especially beautiful, creating the crisp colour junction characteristic of genuine Kanchipuram Korvai and making the border an integral structural part of the saree. The principal border register is dominated by beautifully detailed Mayil motifs woven in gold zari. Each peacock is surrounded by curling floral and leafy ornament, giving the motif the fullness of a miniature decorative panel rather than a simple repeated bird. Narrow Rani Pink accents, geometric zari bands, braided-looking lines and finely scaled ornamental registers frame the Mayil band and make the Deep Purple border feel exceptionally intricate. The pallu carries the gold work into a much denser composition, with a richly woven field of repeating interlocking forms framed by broad ornamental registers against Deep Purple. Explore the Korvai collection, or browse the wider pure silk Kanchipuram collection for more of this character.

Styling: Style it with a deep aubergine or Rani Pink blouse to echo the border, or choose antique gold for a more ceremonial look. Traditional gold jewellery and a centre-parted low bun or long braid will let the vivid green body, silk-thread buttas and elaborate Mayil border remain the focus.
