Pale Sage Checked Handwoven Pure Silk Kanjipuram Saree with Deep Red Varisaipet Border

Pale Sage Checked Handwoven Pure Silk Kanjipuram Saree with Deep Red Varisaipet Border

For a classical dance appreciation evening hosted by a cultural organisation, this Pale Sage Pure Silk Kanjipuram has a wonderfully composed presence, recognised as a confirmed Varisaipet Kanchipuram for its orderly succession of zari bands and measured lined border structure. Its body is covered in extremely fine sage-and-ivory checks that almost disappear at a distance, while the deep red and aubergine-maroon Varisaipet border brings weight, rhythm and ceremonial colour. Handwoven in the Kanchipuram district of Tamil Nadu for Idam Living. Read our story and meet the weaving community behind our sarees.

❖ Made to order, not off a shelf. This saree took 42 days — dyeing, threading, and roughly 16 on the loom — to complete.

Body: The pure silk body is a pale sage green softened by warm ivory micro-checks. Up close, the tiny grid gives the silk a beautifully tailored surface. From a little distance, those checks begin to dissolve into a misty green neutral, reminiscent of eucalyptus leaves caught in gentle morning light. It is quiet, earthy and exceptionally refined. Explore our pure silk Kanchipuram collection.

Border: The softness of the body is grounded by a deep brick-red border that moves into dark aubergine-maroon. Warm antique-gold zari is organised through successive geometric, textured and ornamental registers, giving the Varisaipet border an almost architectural rhythm. The contrast has a distinctly South Indian character, gentle colour above and a strong ceremonial edge below. Explore the wider Varisaipet Kanchipuram collection for more of this character.

Pallu: The visible pallu deepens dramatically into aubergine-maroon, with a broad warm-gold zari field surrounded by fine parallel zari lines. Red and maroon border registers continue through the end piece, creating a richer conclusion to the restrained checked body.

Styling: Make a deep temple-red blouse the single bold styling statement, keeping jewellery to small antique-gold studs and the drape clean. Wear the hair half-up with soft natural waves through the lengths, so the pale sage checks stay airy while the blouse and deep red Varisaipet border carry the colour story.
