Olive Green and Rani Pink Handwoven Pure Silk Kanjivaram Saree with Zari Buttas and Ornate Border

Olive Green and Rani Pink Handwoven Pure Silk Kanjivaram Saree with Zari Buttas and Ornate Border

Olive leaves at dusk and a sudden burst of bougainvillea pink meet in this handwoven Kanchipuram saree, where small gold buttas give way to a splendidly layered border and pallu.

❖ This saree carries 16 days of loom work behind it, handwoven in Kanchipuram by artisan families continuing a generations-old craft.

Woven in the Varisaipet tradition, this pure mulberry silk saree sets its border into multiple carefully ordered pettu registers. Small zari buttas punctuate the green body, making a measured pattern of repeating points; the ornament is not surface embroidery. Varisaipet denotes the multi-band border arrangement, not a claim about a separate joining construction. Handwoven by artisan weaver families in Kanchipuram district, Tamil Nadu, for Idam Living. A saree of this complexity represents approximately 16 or more active days on the loom, with exact weaving time varying according to the individual saree. Read our story.

Body: An olive-leaf green, touched by the bronze light of late afternoon, holds small, neatly spaced gold zari buttas arranged in evenly repeated vertical columns. Subtle rose and earthy-brown iridescence appears along the folds.

Border: A vivid Rani Pink pettu, recalling fresh bougainvillea petals, carries close-packed stacked bands of flower-like forms, geometric diamonds, fine zari dividers and larger scroll-filled ornamental medallions. The border is wide and warm, with gold zari giving the pink a luminous edge.

Pallu: A brilliant Rani Pink and vermilion-red pallu, suffused with finely repeated gold diamond geometry, ends in layered floral-vine bands and densely articulated gold registers. Fine zari lines run alongside a tall ornamental panel, giving the pallu a richly worked but precisely ordered finish. Explore the Varisaipet collection, or browse the wider pure silk Kanchipuram collection for more of this character.

Styling: A muted gold tissue blouse or deep rani-pink silk blouse will pick up the border beautifully. Wear with brushed-gold earrings and a low bun for a wedding reception; for a temple gathering, a simple traditional drape keeps the intricate zari foregrounded.

What does Varisaipet mean in this Kanchipuram saree?
Varisaipet refers to the traditional multi-band arrangement of border details. In this olive green and rani pink saree, layered zari stripes and ornamental registers form a distinctive rhythm along the pettu.
How are the small gold buttas arranged across this saree?
An olive-leaf green, touched by the bronze light of late afternoon, holds small, neatly spaced gold zari buttas arranged in evenly repeated vertical columns. Subtle rose and earthy-brown iridescence appears along the folds. The motifs are woven into the fabric rather than embroidered afterwards.
What makes the pallu of this particular saree special?
A brilliant Rani Pink and vermilion-red pallu, suffused with finely repeated gold diamond geometry, ends in layered floral-vine bands and densely articulated gold registers. Fine zari lines run alongside a tall ornamental panel, giving the pallu a richly worked but precisely ordered finish.
Can Idam Living create a blouse to suit these colours?
Yes. The saree includes a 0.8 m running blouse piece, and optional custom blouse stitching is available. A rani pink accent can be considered for a contrasting blouse; the final design and available fabric are discussed with our team.
How should I care for its zari work?
Dry clean only. Keep the saree folded in soft muslin away from direct sunlight, refold periodically, and avoid perfume directly on the silk or zari.
