Olive Green Handwoven Pure Silk Kanchi Pattu Saree with Petite Mayil Chakram Butta and Varisaipet Border

Olive Green Handwoven Pure Silk Kanchi Pattu Saree with Petite Mayil Chakram Butta and Varisaipet Border

Sixty years around the sun calls for a saree with its own quiet ceremony — this is the silk chosen for a shashti poorthi, when three generations gather and the matriarch of the family takes her seat at the center of the hall. Varisaipet describes a traditional multi-band border structure with repeated woven lines, built up in layered stripes of gold zari rather than a single wide panel. Each saree takes 8 days on the loom and cannot be replicated by machine. Woven by our family's artisan weaver families in Kunnam village near Kanchipuram, Tamil Nadu — read our story.

The body is woven in olive green pure mulberry silk, scattered all over with petite mayil chakram butta — small peacock-wheel motifs in gold zari repeated in neat rows across the drape. Explore more Mayil Chakram Butta Kanchipuram silks.

The deep maroon-brown varisaipet border rises in repeated gold zari bands into a grand pallu where facing peacocks and dense floral vines are woven in high-relief gold zari — a pallu meant to be seen from across a banquet hall. See our full varisaipet Kanchipuram edit.

Pair with a maroon or deep brown silk blouse and antique gold jewellery — well suited to a milestone birthday, wedding reception, or Diwali gathering within the community.
