Neelam Blue Handwoven Pure Silk Kanchipuram Butta Saree with Teal Green Bird Motif Kaal Irangiya Gold Zari Border
Neelam Blue Handwoven Pure Silk Kanchipuram Butta Saree with Teal Green Bird Motif Kaal Irangiya Gold Zari Border
Deep Neelam blue gives this Kanchipuram a quiet, saturated body carrying individually spaced bird-motif buttas in classic-gold zari, before the edge changes sharply into teal green, navy and gold through an unusually deep Kaal Irangiya border. The tonal blue pallu becomes densely geometric and metallic.
❖ Made to order, not off a shelf. This saree took 40 days — dyeing, threading, and roughly 16 on the loom — to complete.

This Kanchipuram is woven in a classic Butta composition in pure mulberry silk, with individually spaced stylised bird-motif buttas in classic-gold zari scattered across an otherwise open Neelam blue body. Handwoven by artisan weaver families in Kanchipuram district, Tamil Nadu, for Idam Living. A saree of this complexity represents approximately 16 or more active days on the loom, with exact weaving time varying according to the individual saree. Read our story.
Border: The teal-green Kaal Irangiya border extends noticeably farther into the body than a conventional narrow edge, transitioning into a deep-blue register with floral scrollwork, narrow geometric bands and pointed edging in classic-gold zari.
Pallu: The deep blue pallu is densely woven in classic-gold zari with an ordered diamond and lozenge field, producing a much stronger metallic surface than the body.
Styling: Use a teal-green blouse to repeat the contrast border or a deep Neelam blouse for a quieter tonal drape. Antique-gold earrings and a low bun work well for temple or concert settings. For evening wear, a compact emerald or navy potli will echo the two-colour border without competing with the bird-motif buttas.
The blue, teal and gold palette is especially suited to Vijayadashami, Deepavali, temple programs, weddings, receptions, Carnatic concerts, classical dance programs and other festive occasions, ceremonies, cultural gatherings and special occasions.
