Neelam Blue Handwoven Pure Silk KanchiPattu Kanchi Kattam Saree with Kaal Irangiya Ivory Gold Border

Neelam Blue Handwoven Pure Silk KanchiPattu Kanchi Kattam Saree with Kaal Irangiya Ivory Gold Border

Deep Neelam blue checks form a disciplined centre field, but the defining visual feature is the pale Kaal Irangiya border that descends much farther into the body than a conventional narrow edge. Ivory-gold silk, fine green outlining and restrained gold ornament give the saree an unusually architectural frame.

❖ This saree took 42 days to make — the silk is dyed, threaded, and hand-woven over roughly 16 on the loom.

A classic Kanchi Kattam composition defines this KanchiPattu, woven in pure mulberry silk. Fine regular checks organise the Neelam body, while the Kaal Irangiya treatment is a secondary border feature and does not replace the primary Kanchi Kattam classification. Handwoven by artisan weaver families in Kanchipuram district, Tamil Nadu, for Idam Living. A saree of this complexity represents approximately 16 or more active days on the loom, with exact weaving time varying according to the individual saree. Read our story.

Border: The pale ivory-gold border extends prominently into the body in the Kaal Irangiya manner. A narrow green edge and classic-gold ornamental register define the transition against the dark blue checks.

Pallu: The pallu shifts into pale ivory-gold, retaining a quieter checked and linear silk texture with classic-gold border ornament and fine green edging.

Styling: A Neelam blouse keeps the contrast concentrated at the border, while pale ivory makes the Kaal Irangiya treatment feel more graphic. Antique-gold earrings and a dark-green clutch can pick up the two secondary tones without crowding the checks.

Particularly strong for Deepavali, temple gatherings, Carnatic programs, evening receptions, weddings and cultural events.

Frequently bought together

What defines the Kanchi Kattam body on this Neelam Blue saree?
Fine regular checks organise the deep Neelam silk body, creating the ordered geometric surface associated with the confirmed Kanchi Kattam classification.
What does Kaal Irangiya describe in this saree?
Kaal Irangiya describes the unusually deep border treatment that extends farther into the saree body than a conventional narrow border, creating a stronger architectural transition.
How would you balance the dark Neelam body and pale ivory border?
A Neelam blouse keeps the contrast concentrated at the border, while pale ivory makes the Kaal Irangiya proportion more graphic. Antique-gold jewellery works with both.
Can a matching inner skirt be added to the order?
Yes. A matching pure-cotton inner skirt is available as an optional Idam Living add-on.
Why can subtle variations appear in the checked weave?
The saree is handwoven, so very small variations in the woven surface can occur naturally. They are part of the character of handloom cloth rather than a mechanically printed grid.
