Muted Taupe Brown Handwoven Pure Silk Kanchi Pattu Butta Saree with Kathiripoo Mayil Gold Zari Border
Muted Taupe Brown Handwoven Pure Silk Kanchi Pattu Butta Saree with Kathiripoo Mayil Gold Zari Border
Muted Taupe Brown gives this handwoven Pure Silk Kanchi Pattu a quietly sophisticated body, with the soft earthen depth of weathered sandalwood and dried bark. Against it, vivid Kathiripoo purple arrives with unmistakable jewel-toned intensity, creating a Kanchipuram colour story that moves from restraint into rich ceremonial contrast.
❖ Handwoven to order, not mass-produced — each saree is individually woven by hand, thread by thread.
Traditional gold zari buttas are scattered across the body at measured intervals, leaving generous areas of the taupe silk visible. The small points of gold allow the unusual body colour to remain central, rather than turning the surface into an all-over field of ornament.
Handwoven in Kanchipuram, Tamil Nadu, for Idam Living. The restrained Butta body develops into a significantly richer lower border and mundhanai, where vivid purple silk, figurative ornament and classic gold zari give the saree greater architectural depth. Read our story.
Border: The Kathiripoo purple contrast is richly articulated with Mayil motifs, winding floral vines and finely worked classic-gold zari bands. The more intricate temple-style treatment creates a substantial frame around the quiet taupe body without losing the clarity of either colour.
Mundhanai: The pallu opens into a luminous field of fine geometric gold zari, framed by elaborate Mayil and floral registers. The denser end piece gives the saree its ceremonial finish while the saturated Kathiripoo contrast keeps the gold ornament visually connected to the border.
Styling: A Kathiripoo purple blouse continues the jewel-toned contrast, while tonal taupe gives the saree a quieter editorial direction. Antique gold works naturally for ceremonies. Pair with temple jewellery or pearls, restrained amethyst, garnet or emerald accents, jasmine or muted mauve flowers and a berry, taupe or metallic clutch.
The taupe, Kathiripoo and classic-gold palette works naturally for Navarathiri and Golu gatherings, Vijaya Dashami, Deepavali, Karthigai Deepam, Indian weddings, temple celebrations, arangetrams, classical performances and other festive occasions, ceremonies, cultural gatherings and special occasions.
Care: Dry clean only. Store folded in a soft muslin cloth away from direct sunlight. Do not spray perfume directly on the silk or zari.
Slight color variations due to screen and lighting; daylight photos/videos available on request.
