Mustard Yellow Handwoven Pure Silk Kanjivaram Saree with Ganga-Jamuna Korvai Borders

Mustard Yellow Handwoven Pure Silk Kanjivaram Saree with Ganga-Jamuna Korvai Borders

Like a field of turmeric flowers against the jewel tones of a temple festival, this handwoven Kanjivaram pairs radiant mustard-yellow silk with two contrasting borders: bottle green on one side and deep magenta on the other. Petite green and reddish-pink silk-thread buttas are scattered across the luminous body.

❖ Made to order, not off a shelf. This saree spent roughly 20 active days on the loom, in addition to dyeing, threading and finishing.

Woven in the Korvai tradition, the contrasting borders are interlocked with the mustard silk body during weaving. The Ganga-Jamuna composition gives each edge its own colour character, while the tiny spaced silk-thread buttas add a delicate rhythm. It carries 2 g zari purity. Handwoven by artisan weaver families in Kanchipuram district, Tamil Nadu, for Idam Living. A saree of this complexity represents approximately 20 or more active days on the loom, with exact weaving time varying according to the individual saree. Read our story.

Border: Contrasting Ganga-Jamuna Korvai borders in deep bottle green and saturated magenta, both richly framed with gold zari and repeated ornamental bands. The gold work includes rounded floral or leaf-like registers and fine geometric edges.

Pallu: A broad magenta pallu glows with densely handwoven gold zari in a finely ordered diamond lattice and floral geometry. The green zari border continues across its upper edge, bringing the contrasting colours into a unified ceremonial finish.

Styling: For a temple ceremony or a winter wedding, choose an elbow-length bottle-green silk blouse with narrow magenta piping, antique-gold jhumkas and a jasmine-adorned low bun. Alternatively, a magenta blouse with a modest square neckline and tiny green thread accents balances the mustard body beautifully. Keep the pallu open to show its gold geometry.

Frequently bought together

What makes this a Korvai Kanjivaram saree?
Korvai refers to a traditional Kanchipuram construction where a contrasting border is joined to the saree body during weaving. On this mustard-yellow saree, the contrasting green and magenta borders frame the silk in distinctly different colours.
What is special about the Ganga-Jamuna borders on this saree?
Ganga-Jamuna describes two differently coloured borders on the same saree. Here, one edge is bottle green while the other is saturated magenta, both finished with gold zari detailing.
Are the small body motifs zari or silk thread?
The mustard body features small, widely spaced silk-thread buttas in contrasting green and reddish-magenta. Their measured spacing lets the luminous yellow silk remain the main feature.
Can Idam Living stitch a blouse to complement these two border colours?
Yes. This saree includes a 0.8 m running blouse piece, and Idam Living also offers custom blouse stitching. A magenta blouse with bottle-green piping or a bottle-green blouse with magenta detailing would echo the Ganga-Jamuna contrast.
How should I care for the gold zari borders and pallu?
Dry clean the saree only. Store it folded in soft muslin away from direct sunlight, refold periodically and avoid spraying perfume directly on the silk or zari.
