Mulberry Maroon Handwoven Pure Silk Kanchipuram Pattupet Saree with Turmeric Yellow Border
Mulberry Maroon Handwoven Pure Silk Kanchipuram Pattupet Saree with Turmeric Yellow Border
Chosen for an Indian American women’s leadership gala, this handwoven pure silk Kanchipuram has a beautifully graphic, almost archival presence. The body is a deep mulberry-maroon, somewhere between dark Arakku and ripe plum, kept almost completely plain so the colour and natural lustre of the silk become the focus.
❖ Handwoven to order, not mass-produced — each piece is individually woven by hand on the loom.
This is a Pattupet Kanchipuram, a silk-only construction with no zari. Its visual richness comes entirely from coloured silk weaving. Against the restrained maroon body, the border arrives in a vivid turmeric-mustard yellow, creating a strong, unmistakably South Indian contrast. Explore our pure silk Kanchipuram collection.
The detailing is precise rather than opulent. Fine black woven motifs and slender geometric lines run through the yellow, interrupted by a surprising streak of electric hot pink. That flash of pink gives the traditional maroon-and-turmeric palette an unexpectedly contemporary energy without disturbing the disciplined composition.
The pallu expands the turmeric yellow into long vertical registers, alternating clear yellow silk with darker muted woven stripes. The rhythm is almost architectural, creating a dramatic finish without conventional metallic ornament. Rich but not ornate, the saree draws its authority from colour, proportion and the precision of the Pattupet weaving.
Styling: Keep the blouse simple enough to respect the graphic border. Deep mulberry, turmeric yellow or black silk would preserve the geometry, while a precisely matched hot-pink blouse would turn the narrow accent into a deliberate contemporary statement. Choose sculptural earrings rather than heavy layered jewellery.
