Mint Green and Royal Blue Handwoven Pure Silk Kancheepuram Saree with Korvai and Paisley Zari Border

Mint Green and Royal Blue Handwoven Pure Silk Kancheepuram Saree with Korvai and Paisley Zari Border

When the Deepavali shopping season opens at a heritage silk house in Chennai's T. Nagar, the women who arrive at dawn already know what they are looking for — and this Kancheepuram tissue silk saree from Idam Living, woven by the weaver families of Kunnam village near Kanchipuram, is exactly the kind of saree they would recognise on sight. It is woven in the Korvai weave: body and border woven separately and structurally interlocked on the loom, producing a strong seamless junction between contrasting sections — the loom itself creating the transition between two distinct colour fields in a single continuous fabric.

The body is mint green tissue silk — the tissue weave introducing fine gold threads into the warp that give the fabric its characteristic luminous shimmer, a quality that shifts from green to gold as the wearer moves in different light. Across the royal blue lower body, small oval gold butta are scattered in a restrained repeat, each one a point of light against the deep blue ground. The transition from mint green to royal blue is structural, held in place by the Korvai interlocking, the junction seamless and strong.

The border is a grand composition in pure gold zari on royal blue ground — large paisley and peacock motifs at full border scale, rendered in the dense gold zari that defines Kanchipuram's most ceremonial register. The border is layered with geometric zari bands framing the central motif field, and the pallu repeats and amplifies the paisley composition in an even broader gold field. Tissue silk, Korvai construction, and the grandeur of a Deepavali saree — all three in a single piece.
