Body, Border and Pallu: Near the lower body, the restrained Vairaoosi field of fine continuous parallel zari lines gives way to a procession of unusually large traditional bird zari motifs, their crested heads, patterned wings and long feathered tails rendered with remarkable clarity against the blue-green silk. A finely worked antique-gold border of narrow ornamental bands and botanical zari detailing frames the composition without competing with the scale of the birds. The Grand Pallu is considerably richer, with a dense antique-gold field of minute diamond geometry at the centre and long ornamental registers of repeated birds framing both sides, finished with fine geometric bands and pointed edging.
