Magenta Purple Handwoven Pure Silk Kanchipuram Zari Kattam Saree with Paisley Zari Border

Magenta Purple Handwoven Pure Silk Kanchipuram Zari Kattam Saree with Paisley Zari Border

A saturated magenta-purple silk ground gives this Kanchipuram a jewel-toned depth, while the fine gold Zari Kattam grid and spaced buttas bring light across the body. The broad zari border gives the drape a strong traditional frame without overwhelming the colour.

❖ Made to order, not off a shelf. This saree spent roughly 16 active days on the loom, in addition to dyeing, threading and finishing.

Woven in the Zari Kattam tradition, the silk body is crossed by fine gold zari lines that form a delicate grid, punctuated by spaced zari buttas. Handwoven by artisan weaver families in Kanchipuram district, Tamil Nadu, for Idam Living. A saree of this complexity represents approximately 16 or more active days on the loom, with exact weaving time varying according to the individual saree. Read our story.

Border: A broad antique-gold zari border carries generous paisley motifs between fine ornamental registers, creating a richly defined frame against the magenta-purple silk.

Pallu: The pallu is dense with warm-gold zari, combining a finely patterned central field with ornamental side registers for a ceremonial finish.

Styling: Pair it with a deep plum, antique-gold or tonal purple blouse. Classic gold jewellery, jasmine or roses in a low bun and a clean shoulder drape keep the rich border visible while allowing the fine Zari Kattam body to catch the light.

Especially suited to Navratri celebrations, Dussehra gatherings, Diwali, weddings, temple events, cultural gatherings and family ceremonies.

The body is woven with fine zari lines crossing into a delicate grid. The grid catches light across the folds while the spaced buttas remain visible between the checks.
What makes the border distinctive on this saree?
The broad border uses warm gold zari with large paisley motifs and layered ornamental bands, creating a strong frame against the magenta-purple body.
How does this saree work for festive dressing?
Its jewel-toned body and gold zari make it particularly suited to Navratri, Dussehra, Diwali, weddings, temple gatherings and ceremonial occasions.
What should I look for when viewing this handwoven saree?
